Worldwide PSP releases for the week of January 4

The industry is still in vacation mode, hence the reason for this lackluster list below. All that's out this week is a budget release of an old Gundam game. January is going to be a slow month; however, expect the latter part to be packed with some heavy titles.

NA Games:
  • No new releases
EU Games:
  • No new releases

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of December 28

There are no new games coming out this week. This shouldn't come as a surprise since New Year's is just around the corner. We'll see the return of new titles come next month. For now, it's time to catch up on all the other titles you might have put off playing during the year.

NA Games:

  • No new releases
EU Games:
  • No new releases
Asian Games:

Also, don't forget to make a good New Year's resolution! We have one in mind for Sony. Can you guess what that is?

Asian PSN update for the week of 12/22 - 12/28

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of December 21

With Christmas just a few days away, we're not surprised to see little to nothing releasing this week. And you know, this dry spell of holiday releases is somewhat of a blessing in disguise, actually. You see, the holiday season isn't about games and gifts; it's about spending time with the family and wishing you'd leave them again soon after. So put down the games (or don't because there are none for PSP) and make sure you make time for the people that matter most.

NA Games:

  • No new releases
EU Games:
  • No new releases
Asian Games:
Across the ocean in Asia, they're really enjoying the commercial aspect of the season. At least over here, we're shedding materialism and embracing family values. Asia could seriously learn a lot from us.

Asian PSN update for the week of 12/15 - 12/21

Star Strike Portable -- aka Super Stardust Portable -- was all that really mattered this past week in Asia as far as downloading off the PS Store is concerned. It has been a pretty uneventful week this time; there are no PSOne titles to be jealous of. Hooray.

You can catch the weekly Asian PS Store update every Sunday, while you can still enjoy EU and NA updates every Thursday. For PS3-related content, please check PS3 Fanboy.

Sony denies PSP2 rumors, calls it "misinterpretation"

Chatting with Silicon Alley Insider, Sony's John Koller called the PSP2 rumor "completely unfounded." Koller called the push for a PSP2 a "misinterpretation" for the PSP's refocused direction away from UMDs and move towards digital distribution. Despite a flat out denial from Sony, Eurogamer -- the publication which first ran the PSP-4000 and PSP2 rumors -- insists that its sources are "adamant that Sony has specifically discussed both products with them, and that games are in development for a PSP successor."

It's a bit of a tug-of-war here. Who do we believe? It's not too farfetched of an idea that the PSP-4000 is due for next year considering that new hardware has come out annually for the past two years. Couple that without mention from Koller, and it's very likely that this could prove to be still on the table. As for the PSP2, it's never a good time to talk about replacement hardware during a key shopping season, if you catch our drift. Perhaps we'll hear more as we enter 2009.

New CID the Dummy screenshots

CID the Dummy, has quite possibly the most epic crash test dummy story ever told. It's set in a future world where everyone is obsessed with ... product safety, employing the limber mannequins to test everything from cars to, uh, books. It's even got mad scientists that kidnap other deranged scientists' daughters -- who doesn't love that? But wait, what does this ultimate pinnacle of crash test dummy narrative look like? We've got new images in our gallery. So go nuts. The game comes out Q1 2009.

North American DW: Strikeforce out March 24

We knew Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce was coming stateside, but we didn't think it would be hitting this early. According to the latest release date schedule posted by Koei, the next iteration of DW on PSP will be out by March 24, 2009 in North America.

If you've yet heard of this title, then make sure to read all about it in our hands-on preview. Those screenshots down below also look mighty tempting, wouldn't you say?

Rumor: PSP-4000 out next year, PSP2 in development

According to Eurogamer, numerous publishing sources have confirmed that Sony is at work at a third hardware revision and it's planned to come out next year. Not only that, but software developers are reportedly busy working on games for a "PSP2." There were no specific details revealed involving either hardware. The PSP2, unlike the PSP-4000, has not been given any sort of timeframe.

Despite how assured Eurogamer is on the credibility of the information, Sony continues to give the usual "won't comment on rumors and speculation" response. In fact, it was not too long ago that SCEE head David Reeves denied the existence of a PSP successor as rumors unfurled from a tech deal.

FFXII's Gabranth makes Dissidia cut

Dissidia had one last trailer to show before its highly anticipated release in Japan this Thursday. The trailer which debuted on Japanese television this Tuesday morning featured a lot of what we've already seen before, but also had five seconds of something all new. Those last five seconds revealed one more character to join the Dissidia gang and that would be none other than FFXII's Judge Gabranth.

IGN points out that the trailer didn't show off any battle footage and it's not certain whether Gabranth will be playable. The other late reveal, FFXI's Shantotto is confirmed to be playable and this leads us to believe Gabranth will be to. We guess we'll find out this Thursday, won't we?

Asian Games:
Amazing week for Asia, er, Japan we mean. There are nine new titles hitting the market, no doubt to cash in on a late Christmas shopping buzz. Though there are a lot of games out this week for Japan, we'd have to say we're a lot about getting our hands on Dissidia.

Asian PSN update for the week of 12/08 - 12/14

Japan gets hit with a ton of downloadable PSOne titles; some of them we're quite jealous of. Meanwhile, down south Hong Kong and Singapore get a handful of LocoRoco 2-related goodies. See what that's all about after the break.

You can catch the weekly Asian PS Store update every Sunday, while you can still enjoy EU and NA updates every Thursday. For PS3-related content, please check PS3 Fanboy.

Harrison: Atari to focus on downloadable PSP titles

Monsieur Phil Harrison, AKA directeur général délégué des Infogrames, had some words of praise for the PSP at Atari's global showcase last week in London as he called it a "vibrant platform." However, the praise falls short of software support as Phil said the company currently wasn't going to make any new game announcements for the system.

Harrison noted, while not having anything specific to speak of, that Atari does have interest in going the route of e-distribution titles. Said Harrison: "There is no doubt that PSP is a very vibrant platform from a hardware perspective and I think Sony has recently made some good moves into opening up online distribution for software on PSP, so I'm looking to explore that." A downloadable version of N+ would be a great start, Phil!

Worldwide PSP releases for the week of December 7

Dungeon Maker II: The Hidden War is coming to town this week. The first title didn't really penetrate the PSP crowd by much, but here's hoping for round two. It's the only title to release this week in North America, while Europe continues its empty Christmas. Sorry, but you know what this means right? Another plug for Oliver Twist like last week.

NA Games:
EU Games:
  • No new releases
Asian Games:
Asia isn't doing too well for itself either. Two out of its three titles are PSP re-releases; however, Zwei!! does look great. Anyway, next week is the week folks. Look out for that.

Asian PSN update for the week of 12/01 - 12/07

LocoRoco 2 hit Asia this past week, so expect to see lots of LocoRoco-related stuff for this update. If you can't snag the game, then be sure to at least grab some free wallpapers. Check out the full list for both the Japanese and Hong Kong/Singaporean stores after the break.

You can catch the weekly Asian PS Store update every Sunday, while you can still enjoy EU and NA updates every Thursday. For PS3-related content, please check PS3 Fanboy.
